FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Water and Whimsy Co and our products and policies!
- How can I best dispose of my used paint water?
- Option 1: The slower option. Let your used paint water container sit somewhere for a few hours to a day or so to let the particles settle on the bottom. At this point, you can pour the water out through a coffee filter and wipe the built up pigment out of the cup with a paper towel to dispose of. You can also follow the above steps, but pour the water until there’s only a little left and leave that until the water has fully evaporated and wipe out the dry pigment.
- Option 2: The faster option. You can pour the water container out through a coffee filter slowly. Keep rinsing and pouring through the filter until it is clean and wipe out any excess pigment.
- Do you accept returns/exchanges/refunds?
- Returns and exchanges not accepted.

- Do you offer bundles and discounts?
- We do! Please reference the "Discounts and Deals" option under the "More" drop down menu tab for more information on deals and discounts. They may fluctuate and some seasonal deal may come and go, so be sure to check back in regularly!
- What are your paints made out of?
- My paints are made with the highest quality pigments and all natural ingredients in my homemade binder that includes gum arabic, and honey.
- Are your paints non toxic?
- No. My paints have not been tested for toxicity and are intended to be used as watercolor paints/art materials only. Do not consume. And while some of our pigments are cosmetic grade, do not paint on body as that is not their intended use and I cannot predict how your skin will react.
- Can your paints damage my paint brushes?
- It is possible for any paint containing mica and heavier pigment particles to damage paint brushes. I find that the vast majority of my paints are smooth enough and have small enough particles that my usual favorite brushes are my first choice. However, the few larger particle paint we offer I have a separate cheaper set for. These paints will be labeled in their listings. Please read product descriptions carefully.
- How big are the paint pans and how much paint do they hold?
- Our paint sizes are located at the bottom of every page on our site, including this one! Every pan is overfilled and you are going to receive more than the stated below standard capacity. Due to the handmade nature of these products, some overfill volumes may vary. The pan details are as follows:
- Half pan: Standard plastic half pan size at 0.75 x 0.63 x 0.4 inches with a standard volume capacity of 1.8m.
- Quarter pan: Standard plastic quarter pan size at 0/74 x 0.59 x 0.2 inches with a standard volume capacity of 1ml.
- Slim pan: Small, slim, shallow metal pans made of stainless iron material that are conveniently attracted to magnetic surfaces. These pans are also used for cosmetics and fit in most standard magnetic makeup palette containers. Durable and do not rust. Their dimensions are 0.71 x 0.49 x 0.10 inches. Their volume is approximately 0.5ml.
- Mini Pan: Tiny, shallow plastic pan that is great for a sample size of a color. Their dimensions are 0.47x0.47x0.16 inches with a capacity of approximately 0.3ml.
- Sample dots: We also try to include a few sample sized dots as freebies in as many orders as we can, depending on availability. If there is a certain color that you would like to test, and you don't want to commit to or we don't have available any mini pans, please contact us with your order number and let us know what color you would like to sample and we will do out best to include that sample dot with your order if we have one available.
- Why can't I shop for your products on Etsy?
- Etsy was a part of the original plan, however, lately, they have raised their fee rates significantly and even more so if I use their advertising tools. Shopping on my website made via Shopify ensures that more of your money goes towards directly supporting the shop.
- Furthermore, Etsy has begun to be overrun by drop shippers and overwhelming ads that solely owned small businesses like mine cannot compete with. These drop shipping shops on Etsy often steal the designs of other artists on the platform. Please be wary!
- I am open to using Etsy in the future, but until they make some changes, and I announce otherwise, this site will be the only platform on which you can acquire Water and Whimsy Co. Paints. Any seller claiming otherwise is a scam.
- What is ethical / synthetic mica?
- Synthetic mica is mineral based, plastic free, and completely safe to use. Large companies like LUSH have adopted synthetic mica as well.
- For my paints, I check with all of my sources and do my best to ensure that all of my pigments are sourced ethically or manufactured synthetically.
- Mica is a natural transparent and shiny mineral used in most shiny pigments seen in paints, cosmetics, and the like. My paints contain mica for their shine and glimmer.
